Following an investigation, PDPC has imposed a $48,000 financial penalty on Koh Wei Ming @ Muhammad Amin Koh ("Koh"), the sole proprietor of a mobile phone shop, Mobile Chat. Koh breached data protection regulations by using customers’ personal data to register additional prepaid SIM cards without consent. These cards were later sold to unauthorized buyers who, in turn, used them to send specified messages to individuals on the Do Not Call Register.
