THE Personal Data Protection Commission has been in touch with Mr Peh Chwee Hoe to assist him on his feedback ("Unsolicited SMSes via 'approved' party"; Oct 18).

In this instance, the mobile service account and the phone number were first subscribed by a company and subsequently transferred to Mr Peh earlier this year.

Such transfer cases were previously treated as a service termination by the mobile operators and the number was removed from the Do-Not-Call Registry.

The Personal Data Protection Commission has since informed the mobile operators that transferred numbers should not be deleted from the Registry.

Operators must alert subscribers taking over the accounts that their numbers may have been registered on the Registry, and remind them to reconfirm their preferences on the Registry if they do not wish to receive any unsolicited telemarketing messages.
