The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Google has announced a partnership to support local businesses in preparing for a privacy-first future. Announced by Mrs Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information, at the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Week 2023, Singapore businesses will now be able to test their Google's Privacy Sandbox solutions within IMDA's Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PET) Sandbox, a secure environment where businesses can use or share data without disclosing sensitive information.

PDPC's Deputy Commissioner, Ms Denise Wong, also said, 'the PDPC aims to strengthen Singapore's position as a regional trusted data hub while enabling the responsible use of data for both innovation and business growth. We are happy to partner Google in the PET Sandbox and are pleased to have more than 70 companies from various sectors participating in our first workshop. We look forward to participation by other interested companies and even more insights to shape conversations about PETs'.

Participants in the IMDA-Google: PET x Privacy Sandbox can expect the following:

Learn how to protect user privacy and be equipped with the expertise to build a thriving digital business with industry guidance from Google and regulatory guidance from IMDA; and
Feedback from the Pilot Program will help improve Privacy Sandbox technologies to ensure they meet the needs of businesses and help inform IMDA in its development of regulatory guidance for PETs.
