The Infocomm Media and Development Authority (IMDA) and the IAPP have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) to strengthen collaboration on data protection, AI governance, and digital responsibility. This partnership will expand and develop the training of AI governance professionals, to meet rising demand for world-class professionals to keep AI safe and trustworthy. The integration of the Singapore Data Festival (SDF) and IAPP Asia Forum will also help businesses tap into global data and AI expertise. This collaboration is set to span the next three years.

Both IAPP and IMDA recognise the value in collaborating to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving landscape of data protection and AI governance. By working together, they aim to equip and train industry leaders, regulators, and professionals in Singapore with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate complex issues in the age of data and AI. This partnership also underscores the shared commitment to promoting ethical practices and ensuring responsible innovation in the use of emerging technologies.

With the renewed partnership, IMDA and IAPP will integrate the Singapore Data Festival and IAPP Asia Forum for another three years. This will serve as a platform to convene policy makers, as well as experts on AI governance and digital responsibility to discuss and shape how data can be used innovatively and responsibly in the current digital landscape. AI and data professionals can also look forward to accessing world class professional training and certification, such as the IAPP AI Governance Professional training and certification in Singapore.

The MOI was signed by Ms Denise Wong, Commissioner of the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and Assistant Chief Executive of the Data Innovation and Protection Group (DIPG), IMDA, and Mr J Trevor Hughes, President and Chief Executive Officer of IAPP, on 22 July 2026 at the IAPP Asia Forum. This marks a significant milestone in their joint efforts to promote data protection and good AI governance on both local and international fronts.
