Protecting Personal Data Is Everyone's Responsibility
The PDPC is marking the third week of May 2019 as Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) in Singapore. An initiative by the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA), PAW is held annually by its members to promote awareness of privacy and personal data protection issues.
Since the PDPA was enacted, the importance of protecting personal data has steadily grown as a priority for both organisations and individuals. For either to truly benefit from the digital economy, data sharing, security and trust are crucial elements in facilitating the transition. This is also where accountable and responsible handling of personal data comes into play.
This year's theme for PAW is "Protecting Personal Data Is Everyone's Responsibility", and the PDPC will be emphasising the protection priority that has surfaced frequently in the news - data breaches.
Over the course of the week, the PDPC will be engaging various audiences through a suite of events with industry partners, providing resources useful in helping organisations manage data breaches, and offering the general public tips on how to spot potential data incidents online.
