New Commissioner for Personal Data Protection Commission

20 Jun 2020

Mr Tan Kiat How will be stepping down as the Chief Executive of Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Commissioner of Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).

As Commissioner of PDPC since January 2017, Mr Tan led the evolution of Singapore’s personal data regulatory regime from one based on prescriptive compliance to one based on accountability, emphasising the importance of safeguarding consumer interests while balancing business innovation.

He also guided PDPC’s development of the Model AI Governance Framework, a first of its kind globally, as well as the Data Protection Officer Competency Framework and Training Roadmap to guide professionals in performing their job functions effectively in a structured manner. He was also instrumental in Singapore’s launch of the Data Protection Trustmark and participation in the APEC Cross Border Privacy Rules System as a visible insignia for local companies with exemplary data protection policies and practices.

Mr Lew Chuen Hong, currently Deputy Chief Executive (Development) of IMDA, has been appointed as the next Chief Executive of IMDA and Commissioner of PDPC. Mr Lew brings with him a vast amount of experience. He was previously the Chief of Navy, and had also served in the Ministry of Trade and Industry as Director in the Research and Enterprise Division. He will build on IMDA and PDPC’s efforts in developing a thriving and inclusive digital future for Singapore and begins his new role on 20 June 2020.
